Shark Point Dive Site – Bentota

Shark Point is one of the most exciting offshore dive sites in Bentota, located about 6 km from Beruwala beach and reached by a 20-minute boat ride.

This advanced navigation dive begins at around 20 meters and descends to a maximum depth of 33 meters. The site is divided into four sections, requiring divers to navigate from one zone to another, adding an element of challenge and adventure.

In the past, Shark Point was well known for frequent sightings of blacktip reef sharks, which gave the dive site its name. Today, the site remains rich in marine life, featuring massive schools of barracuda, very large groupers, Napoleon wrasse, and powerful tuna and trevally hunting smaller fish in the open water.

Unlike many other dive sites around Bentota, Shark Point stands out for its healthy coral formations. Divers can explore a mix of soft and hard corals, including an impressive gorgonian coral forest in the third section of the dive site. Visibility is generally very good, making it ideal for deep diving and underwater exploration.
With its depth, navigation challenges, strong marine action, and coral landscapes, Shark Point is best suited for experienced divers seeking a thrilling and memorable dive in Sri Lanka.
